East Houghton Waterfront Park

Houghton has one of the more unique waterfronts in Michigan, and the parks on the Keweenaw Waterway are some of the best around. Located directly across from Mont Ripley, East Houghton Waterfront Park has stellar water, landscape, and city views.

You can see the Portage Lake Lift Bridge from the docks on the water, there’s a boat launch right next to the park, and there’s a structure here with picnic tables and bathrooms. In the winter, you can sit and watch people fly down Mont Ripley, and in the summer, you can enjoy skaters shredding at the Houghton Skatepark, which is within East Houghton Waterfront Park.

The park is well connected to the rest of the waterfront, so you can get from here to other places of interest without going on a busy road. When I visited the park in the spring, people were cleaning up and maintaining the riverfront, which was spotless.

The park is a stellar place to enjoy the water, launch your boat, skateboard, or take a break from your adventures in the Keweenaw Peninsula, regardless of your end goal.
