Ten Foot Falls

Many adventurers pass right by the small parking area off M-26 on their way to Eagle River without a passing glance. Anyone who makes the stop is treated to a small picturesque waterfall a few short meters from the road that doesn’t often get very crowded.

The Eagle River forms one unified branch near Phoenix, where it gains traction and falls over a number of small waterfalls and rapids before reaching Eagle River Falls, one of the most triumphant falls in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Whereas Eagle River Falls is much more dramatic, Ten Foot Falls is worth a visit, too.

In high water season, trees sprout from the edge of the river and make for a unique scenic area. There are plenty of flat rock areas to take a seat and enjoy the falls–just be careful to look out for slippery rocks so you don’t go tumbling into the water.

You won’t find nearly as many people at Ten Foot Falls as at Eagle River Falls, for good reason, but it’s worth a visit all the same.
