Thomas Mollicone Park

Thomas Mollicone Playground and Park is a small park located in Indian Village on Detroit’s east side. It’s directly across the street from Nichols Elementary & Middle School.

The City of Detroit closed the park in 2013, the same the municipality declared bankruptcy. Greater Christ Baptist Church looked after it until the Friends of Mollicone Park was formed as a non-profit in 2016.

Ground broke on the new pathway around the park’s interior in June 2018. The play structure would be complete by the summer of 2019.

On any given day around 4 PM, you’ll find kids from the local schools, including Nichols across the street, playing on the playground, rollerblading on the path, and enjoying the greenery.

Thomas J. Mollicone, for whom the park is named, was an American soldier in World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star for his service with the 95th Infantry Division. He died serving his country in 1945.

The playscape has swings, slides, climbing areas, and spinning equipment.
