Pinckney Town Square Park

Right in the heart of downtown Pinckney is a large park that takes up most of a square block. Complete with a pavilion, playground, and a small community center building, the park has something to offer for everyone.

To squash any confusion right off the bat, there are a few names for the park we are calling ‘Pinckney Town Square Park.’ The playground is called Unity Park; there’s a sign that labels the entire square ‘Putnam Township Square,’ and Google chooses to label the entire park ‘Town Square Park.’ We’ve opted to go with that because it encompasses everything in one.

The main road that runs through Pinckney is Michigan 36, which is a Blue Star Memorial Highway. It runs perpendicular to Howell Street in the middle of downtown, and the park sits on the southeast side of that intersection.

In our short time in Pinckney, we enjoyed breakfast at Aunt Betties, a small diner-style restaurant just west of the park, got some baked goods from the Pinckney Bakery on the other side of Michigan 36, and meandered around the park. There were folks walking their dogs, kids playing on the playground, and birds chirping everywhere we went. It was truly a beautiful morning in the park.

There isn’t a ton to do here, but it’s a great place to enjoy a picnic, let the kids get some energy out on the playground, or enjoy one of the programs that the Pinckney Community Youth Development Initiative runs at the 1883 Pearson’s Addition Building on the property.

Whether you’re just stopping to stretch your legs or will be in Pinckney for a few days, it’s more than worth your time to stop at this park.
