Dappy Falls

This is a small, seasonal waterfall. On three trips past it, significant water flowed twice, both in the Spring after light rain storms. The exposed rock is evidence that there is often falling water here.

Dappy Falls is on a picturesque stretch of road between Lac La Belle and Bete Gris. If you blink at the wrong time, you’ll miss it, as trees and shrubbery shroud it. The falls are on mountain runoff from Mount Bohemia that only exists in the spring snowmelt or after a big rain if you’re lucky.

Dappy Falls is easy to miss, but we’ve found it easier to locate if you’re traveling east on Bete Gris Road. In the early spring or after a big rain, the falls are turbulent enough to look white, which makes them easier to find. They’re right next to the road, so if you’re heading into the forest, you’re in the wrong place.

Scrappy Falls, another small waterfall just west of here on Bete Gris Road, looks similar and is worth stopping at if you enjoyed Dappy Falls.

We can’t recommend taking a trip specifically for Scrappy and Dappy Falls while visiting the Keweenaw; however, if you’re headed to Bete Gris Roadside Park or the Mendota Canal Lighthouse View, it’s worth looking for these two small, picturesque falls to see if someone turned the tap on above at Mount Bohemia.
