Donald Red Geary Skatepark

The skatepark at Donald Red Geary Park was completed in 2019 after a $250,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation was awarded for its construction. The skatepark has a small footprint compared to the park it resides within, which is complete with soccer fields, baseball & softball fields, a small playground, bathrooms, and a hockey rink for winter use. The skatepark features a ton of bowls and is unique to other parks we have been to around the Detroit area. There are a lot of runs to complete here, the largest going almost all the way around the park. On the north side of the park are a few street obstacles, but that is not where this park shines. When we visited, the park’s patronage was mostly kids on scooters, which was fine for most of the skaters there, but the few BMX riders using the park got very frustrated with the younger scooter riders and some of the people standing around. As the night went on, the park got more and more crowded, so if you want to avoid other people (and scooters) I would go during school hours if you can or early in the morning.
