Flint Farmers’ Market
As a kid, I used to go up to the old Flint Farmers’ Market between Robert T. Longway and the Flint River with my mom on weekends to look at local art and produce and explore downtown Flint. The old market was historic, having been built in 1920 by WPA workers, but the location did not make much sense as Flint’s population continued to shrink and the link between downtown and the aging market building began to falter. In 2014, the market moved to its current location in the Flint Journal's former printing facility. Located just a short walk from the bricks of Saginaw Street, the market has blossomed into a beacon for Flint’s arts and culture renaissance. The market features vendors selling art by locals, specialty food items, fresh produce, hand-crafted goods, garments, and a ton more. The apple orchard I always went to growing up, Porter’s Orchard, has a booth at the market, and my mom highly recommends Steady Eddy’s Cafe. The Flint Farmers’ Market rivals Detroit’s Eastern Market as one of the best markets in Michigan, in my opinion, and the market is a great place to jump-start your journey around downtown Flint.
