Hancock Public Beach

The Hancock Public Beach is a part of the Hancock Recreation Area, a large park on the shores of the Keweenaw Waterway on the outskirts of downtown Hancock.

There’s a large parking area here, which fills up in the summertime. The park has a lot going on, but a lot of its uses are seasonal. There are three sand volleyball courts, which are well-maintained and well-used. There’s a small playground here, too, which is mostly shaded. Near the water, there’s a small beach, which has a swimming area with buoys. There’s a pier, which can be used for swimming, and a kayak launch.

In the summer, you can rent paddle boards and kayaks here. Plus, there’s ice cream, too, which is refreshing on a hot day.

Multiple signs denote that dogs aren’t allowed in the park. On my trip to Hancock Public Beach, my dog Scrappy had to stay in the car while I shot these photos. It wasn’t that warm, so he was fine, and the park was empty.

This is far from the most quaint water location in the Keweenaw Peninsula, but it’s a solid place to meet new friends, take a dip, and rent a kayak or paddleboard to enjoy the weather!
