Jacob’s Falls

Jacob’s Falls is a large set of falls and rapids between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor on Jacob’s Creek. The most photographed drop is visible from M-26, but some of the most scenic portions require some hiking. The path is difficult at times, especially on the return trip, but well worth it if you’re able. The path on the eastern side of Jacob’s Creek takes you up the side of the gorge, past a handful of falls, rapids, and fast-moving water. You can climb the falls themselves, but the journey is much harder to manage. Whether you’re just passing through or making a pit stop at Jampot, Jacob’s Falls is worth visiting.

Upon our first visit to the falls, I charged up the side before my group could catch up. I was determined to see what lay ahead, but karma would catch up to me before too long. While admiring the falls and view from the top, I…well, threw, for lack of a better word, my camera into the falls. Luckily, I acted quickly and was able to recover it before it washed away. It was unusable for the rest of the trip, but after a week in rice purchased from the store in Copper Harbor, it lived to tell another tale.
