L’Anse Waterfront Park

L’Anse is a perfect jumping-off point for your adventures in the Keweenaw Peninsula, Huron Mountains, and the rugged landscape around Ontonagon, Bruce Crossing, and Covington. In all these places, you’ll find hard-fought hikes, stellar views, and rugged waterfalls. Still, it’s nice to unwind now and then or take the kids to a playground to tire themselves out before the long drive home, which is where L’Anse Waterfront Park comes into play.

The park is located in downtown L’Anse on the Keweenaw Bay next to the marina. Nearby, the Falls River crashes down multiple waterfalls before slowly meandering into the bay. The park is broken up into two sections. The central part contains the pavilion, bandshell, playground, marina building and bathrooms, beach, and pier. The second portion is just south of here, closer to the Falls Rivermouth, and has a covered picnic area, a small playground, and sand volleyball. Between the two sections, there’s more than enough space to hang out, enjoy the water, and tire out the kiddos.

The park is downtown, so you can enjoy it before or after getting a bite to eat, shopping, or groceries at Pat’s. Or, enjoy sitting by the bay after hiking up the Falls River to the Lower and Middle Falls. The park is well-maintained and manicured, which is easy on the eyes. Dogs are allowed, and there are dog poop stations throughout the park with bags and garbage cans.

The bandshell offers live music on Thursday nights at 7 PM from June through September, featuring local and regional acts. There is some permanent seating, but you’re better off bringing your own folding chair or blanket. You can hear the music from most of the park and enjoy the amenities while listening to live tunes.

L’Anse Waterfront Park has a little bit of everything, and we love it for that. You can relax, let the kids play on the playground, walk the dog, watch the fishing boats come into the dock, and ask the crew how their luck was that day. What’s better than that?
