Mouth of the Two Hearted River
On my first-ever trip to the Upper Peninsula, the Two Hearted River Campground area was one of my favorite places that we went, but our journey to get there was not. We attempted to get to the Crisp Point Lighthouse, but the road was flooded, so we had to turn back. Shortly after turning back, we saw a sign for the Two Hearted River Campground, which I knew was a beach suitable for rock hunting, so we decided to go for it.
The roads were similar to what we had been driving on until we hit Two Hearted Landing Road, which was one of the worst roads I have ever encountered. Do not attempt to access the Two Hearted River Campground via that road unless you drive something big and beefy; otherwise, you won’t have a fun time. We made it, but just barely. I’d recommend taking the road we took out, Mouth Of 2 Heart Road.
Once we finally reached the beach, we were greeted by blue skies, abundant rocks, and many cheerful fishermen looking for the illustrious autumnal trout. We ate lunch overlooking the majesty of the Two Hearted River, crossed the mini-suspension bridge, and rock-hunted our way up and down the shores of Lake Superior.
We didn’t camp here, but it offers 39 sites right off the river. You can’t make reservations any time of year; the sites are first come, first serve. Whether you are camping or just stopping by, the journey out to the Two Hearted River Campground was well worth the hell we went through to get there!
