Ontonagon Public Beach (Downtown)

You can walk to the downtown Ontonagon Public Beach from the main strip in Ontonagon in about the same amount of time it takes to eat a small ice cream from Sip & Snack. The beach here is the widest it is within the Ontonagon area and offers a beautiful view of the pierhead, especially during sunset. While we were visiting, there were wildfires in Canada that made the sunrises, sunsets, and the air in general very peculiar. This is also the beach that we swam at to cross off swimming in Lake Superior off our summer bucket list, and the first place I can say I truly ‘swam’ in the big lake. There were a few other groups swimming, and it was a great way to cool off after a long day of exploring and to enjoy the sunset.
