Ontonagon Public Beach (Village)

Ontonagon has abundant sandy beaches east of the mouth of the Ontonagon River. Just outside of downtown, there is a little parking lot that gives access to the beach. You can walk west to the downtown Public Beach or east to the Township Park and Campground from the Village Beach, or just stay put. The beach is littered with driftwood that is the size of full trees, some rocks, and beautiful sand. Although the water has been fairly high in recent years, in 2020, the water was pretty low, and there was a lot of beach. There is no swimming area, but the water was not unbearable for swimming in August. If the downtown or township park beaches are too crowded for your liking, this may be a good option to unwind in peace.
