Lake Michigan Campground & Recreation Area (Hiawatha National Forest)

The Lake Michigan Campground in the Hiawatha National Forest is nestled on a sliver of land between M-2 and Lake Michigan. The campground offers 35 sites nestled in-around-and-on-top of the dunes, offering a unique camping experience. Climb the dunes, and you will be greeted with a scenic Lake Michigan vista view. The beach is much smaller than it used to be due to high water levels, but there’s still quite a bit of beach available for walking, playing, and swimming. The campground offers in-advance or walk-up reservations, and there is a fee to park in the lot to use the recreation area. Some of the sites on the north side of the campground road are a bit close to M-2 for my liking, but the trees muffle the sound well. This campground is great for taking a load off on your journey further north in the Upper Peninsula or to spend a week enjoying Lake Michigan and all of its splendor.
